Straitened Times

Enjoyment:

3/5 – Good

Summary

The game started off slow, but really picked up steam. Once I got used the interface the progression of the story and the build up on interactions was a lot of fun. Almost all the scenes are sexy, and the characters are beautiful and well done. I thought that I was near the end of the game, but when I looked at a walk through I realized there were a ton more activities to pursue.

The only downside to the game is that a did need a walk through to unlock more content, the triggers and events became much harder to start, since it was based on specific times of the day, locations, and previous interactions. The game started to feel more like a job, and I decided to stop playing.

Ratings

  • Game play: 2/5
    • Navigating locations, building relationships, and unlocking scenes is fun and enjoyable. But the upkeep requirements of going to school, making money, keeping family relationships strong, growing heart points, those all felt like a distraction and reduced the fun of the game.
  • Characters: 4/5
    • You start with a small group of characters, and there are quite a few individual interactions, then dynamic interactions based on different relationships. The list of characters keeps growing, but in a good way. Each one requires time and effort and the rewards are very much worth it.
  • Story: 2/5
    • I know there is a story about a father in jail, but to be honest, I didn’t need it. The interactions with the rest of the characters was organically fun, and didn’t need the background story to make it interesting. The progression of each character felt like its own story, and that was much more fun than pursing the main story line.
  • Style: 3/5
    • I think each of the characters is well done, the multiple images, and the animations were very enjoyable. The interface is what drags things down, it becomes far to click-y to move through the game after time.
  • Scenes: 4/5
    • The scenes are the best part of the game, once you finally unlock them with the characters, they make the game shine. Each one is fun and repeatable and well done. None of them are too long, but the multiple angles, the pacing, and the large volume of them make it worth it.

Platform

  • Platform: Linux
  • Version Played: 0.63.2
  • Replay the game in the future: Maybe – I wanted to unlock everything, but I lost enjoyment when i was spending more time looking at the walk through than playing the game itself.
